Hi Blog!
Recently, we've been working on the Music Marketing project, where we have to create an artist or band based off a song given to us in class. We have to focus on marketing, distribution, and the brand identity, as well as create a music video with the song we got. Our genre is a sub-genre of rock, which we previously did research on. But the song we're doing is more of an alternative/indie rock.
However, we had to do some research first. I reaserched on the social media aspect that has to deal with digital and physical marketing and distribution. Our band's name is Midnight Shadows, so our brand identity will be kind of a low-light, cold color kind of vibe. As I was doing my research, I learned the different ways in which music artists promote and make their music known and applied it to our band. For the online aspect, we have decided to use platforms like Apple Music and Spotify to distribute our music since both platforms are known globally and have the option to digitally listen to music. This will be critical for our band to reach a larger audience and become known internationally. We're also developing social media pages like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube. Every choice we make has a purpose, which is seen in every single artist. Twitter and Facebook pages will prioritize important news and messages we want our audience to know. For example, future tour, concert, and live event dates, as well as new music released. Both platforms will be primarily used to reach an audience ranging from the late 20's to 50 years of age that might be interested in our content. Now, to reach younger audiences, we are going to develop an Instagram and TikTok page since it's what is hitting today. The Instagram account will be very promotional, with posts announcing our most recent tour. This is chosen to provoke enthuciasm and excitement for the people, knowing that they don't post every day, so when they do, it's something special. As for TikTok, they have their own promotion and music distribution platform, which is SoundOn, so artists can grow their fanbase and get their voice heard worldwide. The platform allows artists to upload their music directly to TikTok, to which many have become completely viral.
Another part of my research was about non-digital ways to promote and distribute. I found that selling merchandise is for that purpose. We are incorporating this into our project by presenting the "public" with t-shirts and vinyls of the album so fans can represent us and their fandom, where we can also reach other audiences. Not only does this promote and distribute our music, but it also makes fans feel part of our family, allowing us to make a connection with them. We're also going to sell tickets to tours, concerts, and live events that Midnight Shadows will be at.
All of the information was acquired through research and reading articles in which they taught me how this works. We still have a lot to do before this project is finished, and I also feel like I could do a little more digging and inform myself more. Also, all of the social media pages and the merchandise will be created with the help of Canva, which has proven to be a very good aiding tool. For example, here's our logo:
